Invisalign & ClearCorrect Q & A

What is clear alignment therapy (i.e. Invisalign or ClearCorrect)?

Invisalign and ClearCorrect are teeth straightening systems that use clear retainer style aligners rather than metal or ceramic brackets and wires. If you have mild to moderate teeth alignment problems, Invisalign or ClearCorrect may be good options to consider.

What type of teeth alignment issues does clear aligner therapy (i.e. ClearCorrect or Invisalign) correct?

Invisalign and ClearCorrect help correct many different teeth alignment issues, including all of the following:

  • Crowded mouth: occurs when teeth overlap each other in some places. This is a common orthodontic challenge, and Invisalign or ClearCorrect can often help. However, one or more teeth may require extraction first.
  • Crooked teeth: many patients have crooked teeth, especially in the front of the mouth where it's most noticeable. Invisalign or ClearCorrect can gently realign the teeth.
  • Gap between two teeth: a space between two teeth, for example, a small gap in between the two most prominent front teeth, is a common problem for many patients today. Invisalign or ClearCorrect can gradually close the gap.
  • Overbite: overbite -- when the top teeth overlap the bottom ones when you close your mouth -- is often corrected with Invisalign or ClearCorrect, as long as the overlap isn't extremely large.

How long does Invisalign or ClearCorrect treatment take?

Invisalign or ClearCorrect treatment can be different for every patient. The orthodontist can give you an estimated treatment time before you begin clear aligner therapy, although this can change based on how you respond to treatment. For most patients, Invisalign or ClearCorrect treatment lasts for around a year, but it can be as little as six months or as much as two years.

How often do you change out Invisalign or ClearCorrect aligners?

You'll wear multiple sets of aligners over the course of your Invisalign or ClearCorrect treatment. You'll change the aligners out for new ones twice a month, or possibly sooner, based on the amount of movement needed.

Do you wear Invisalign or ClearCorrect all the time?

You'll wear Invisalign or ClearCorrect for around 22 hours a day on average. The only time that your aligners aren't worn is while eating and while brushing.
